The 2016 Ford Flex is quite a refreshing car. In today’s market, one generally does not find a full sized boxy vehicle that is also a crossover and a hit as well. The last time the Flex was refreshed was in the year 2013. Since then no major changes have been made to the vehicle though car enthusiasts expect a lot from the new Flex.
2016 Ford Flex Exterior and Interior Redesign
The trouble with expecting too much from the 2016 Ford Flex is that the sales of previous models have not been very good and so there are doubts about this car. Even so, the company will introduce a three-row full size boxcar, which will also be much more fuel efficient than before. It remains a boxy vehicle and this design will be continued in the latest version of the Flex, which should be introduced into the market in 2016. Changes will be made to the fascia and the grille should also get new dimensions. In addition, the car will also get headlights that are very angular and the tailgate will no longer have contrasting colors.
The interiors of the 2016 Ford Flex will also see some design changes though these changes will be rather sporadic in nature. The seats will still be upholstered in cloth but the top grade will be more refined with leather-trimmed seats. The nice thing about the interiors of the Flex is that its three rows offer a lot of space though reaching the third row can be a bit difficult at times. The dash has been redesigned and has wood accents in the top-end trims. There is also a 4.2-inch touch screen display on the instrument panel and the audio system from Sony is also pretty impressive. The interiors also boast of regular safety features, which include as many as six airbags and stability/traction controls as well as an anti-locking braking system. You won’t get rearview camera as a standard feature and the same goes for parking sensors. In the top models, Ford offers adaptive cruise control and forward collision alert as well as blind spot monitors. These features are not available in the lower end trims.
2016 Ford Flex Engine Specs
The 2016 Ford Flex has a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 287 horsepower and 254 pound-feet of torque. The EcoBoost produces 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. There are reports that a nine-speed gearbox will replace the six-speed automatic transmission but this is not necessarily true. Furthermore, there are also some reports that suggest that Ford will convert the Flex into a hybrid vehicle because this car is already a best seller in California.
The fuel economy figures for the Flex are eighteen miles per gallon in the city and twenty-five miles per gallon on the highway. These figures relate to the base engine. For the EcoBoost the fuel economy figures are sixteen miles per gallon in the city and twenty-three miles per gallon on the highway.
2016 Ford Flex Release Date and Price
As for pricing of the Flex, reports suggest that the car will be priced at the same level as its current model. This means that customers should be ready to pay between 29,000 and 38000 dollars for the vehicle when it is finally released into the market.
